Google Checks Out Library Books

Google Checks Out Library Books: "MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - December 14, 2004 - As part of its effort to make offline information searchable online, Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today announced that it is working with the libraries of Harvard, Stanford, the University of Michigan, and the University of Oxford as well as The New York Public Library to digitally scan books from their collections so that users worldwide can search them in Google."

This announcement got the conspiracy theorists going last month. I don't see the harm in what Google is doing though. Being able to search through the text of those books will be great . There's so much information out there and right now it's just beyond our reach. If anyone can bridge that gap, it's Google.
